Ramirez through their heightened, experimental comedic style that their mother often calls “disturbing and not for me.” Gathering highbrow and lowbrow authorities alike, from musicians to characters, comedians to writers, this series promises to be an unhinged meeting of minds for the ages.

River L. Ramirez (they/them) is a Brooklyn-based artist, comedian and writer who wrote, produced and directed the comedy special program “Pervert Everything” for Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. Ramirez has appeared on the HBO comedy series ‘Random Acts of Flyness’ and in the final season of Comedy Central’s ‘Broad City’. Most recently they have had a residency at Barishnykov Arts Center where they premiered their latest musical piece “GHOSTFOLK”
Ramirez has written for High Maintenance, The National Lampoon Radio Hour. Ramirez can be seen in a recurring role in the HBO comedy series Los Espookys opposite Fred Armisen and, opposite Glenn Close, in John Cameron Mitchell’s musical anthology podcast Anthem and featured as Charly in BIRDGIRL. Named one of Comedy Central’s Up Next Comedians for 2018, Ramirez was featured in the San Francisco Cluster Fest comedy festival, and performed at the Public Theater in New York as part of the January, 2019, Under the Radar Festival.
Matthew Gallagher As Machine Listener, Pittsburgh-based Matthew Gallagher artist and musician, creates enormous and agile sets of noise music that skirt the blunt and brutal tendencies of the genre for more curious, engaged experiences. They have shared the stage with acts such as Aaron Dilloway, W00dy, Jeremy Bible, High Aura’d and Mothcock.
Nappy Nina is an Oakland born writer, emcee and producer. Her debut album The Tree Act was released in January 2019 with LucidHaus and has received much acclaim. She has been featured on tracks with Yeaji, Quelle Chris, and Son Lux as well as many other talented artists. Her rap efforts have led her to perform around the U.S. as well as spread her west coast chill to France, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, and Rotterdam. A nomad at heart, Nina is currently residing in Brooklyn but leaving every chance she gets.
Kinlaw is an audio composer, choreographer, and artist focusing on empathic potential and agency developed by performance. Their productions have been featured throughout New York City in institutions like MoMA, MoMA PS1, New Museum, Pioneer Works, and Mana Contemporary, as well as throughout Europe. Kinlaw is the current music resident at Pioneer Works and previous member of New Inc, focusing on Experiments in Art and Technology and psychoacoustical research at Bell Labs. Kinlaw is an MFA candidate at Bard College, Milton Avery School of the Arts.

Designed to foreground Ars Nova’s values through the creation of more equitable and power-sharing curatorial practices, the Vision Residency was launched in 2020 with the goal of expanding Ars Nova’s artistic vision by inviting artist-curators to program our stages and digital platform with their own work as well as work by artists they champion and admire. Each Resident will be given broad support from Ars Nova’s full staff in their curation, which will result in events and performances in-person at Ars Nova and online on Ars Nova Supra.
Each will be paid for their curation and administrative work, as well as a program budget to allocate towards the creation, development and presentation of work during their curated month. Vision Residents are encouraged to invite other artists they feel inspired by, want to collaborate with or simply wish to amplify, to make and share work using the budget and resources of the residency during their month of programming.

To best protect everyone present and in accordance with NYC mandates and the latest CDC guidance, Ars Nova will require all audience members and staff to provide proof of full-vaccination and to wear masks for all on-site performances and events through the end of the 2021/22 season.
