Unregulated: A Musical

Marcia Belsky

Unregulated is a darkly funny new musical from Marcia Belsky about emotional collapse in an unlivable future. In 2045, a deadly storm, a coffee shop meltdown, and one impossibly indecisive customer send Sarah spiraling into a job search from hell. The weather is getting worse, the systems are failing, and nobody can keep it together for long! Sharp, absurd, and a little too familiar, Unregulated asks what happens when survival itself starts to feel like customer service.

Marcia Belsky is a New York City based stand-up comedian, writer and musician. She is best known for her song 100 Tampons. With Drew Anderson, she co-wrote Underdogs: an Audible original musical series starring Alan Cumming and more. She has been featured on NPR, BBC & more.

Based in Queens, Talk Bazaar / Alex DeSimine is a composer with many hats. Recent works have included art documentary scores, the performance of an original piece with the 60-person Brooklyn Choir Project, and an LP that straddles the sonic worlds of indie rock, electronica, acid jazz, ambient, and folk. Beyond their solo work and film composition work, Talk Bazaar is often on- and off-stage supporting the visions of other friends and confidantes, including Hannah Frances, Tasha, Panther Hollow, Ackerman, and Alexia Avina. Working with Marcia Belsky on “Unregulated” is the continuation of a musical relationship that started with producing Marcia’s full length album “Everyone Should Be My Exact Same Age.” But this time, there’s tranquilizers.

James Tom is a stand-up comic, actor, and writer, gleefully providing the trans, queer, Asian American, millennial twink perspective that everyone never knew they wanted. James can be seen & heard in Bradley Cooper’s IS THIS THING ON?, the Hulu Feature CRUSH, HBO Max’s LOVE LIFE, Adult Swim’s TUCA & BERTIE, and on Hannah Gadsby’s GENDER AGENDA, on Netflix. He was previously a story editor on HBO Max’s OUR FLAG MEANS DEATH. His writing has been published by Reductress, Shondaland, and Condé Nast’s Them, and he wrote for the Audible/Broadway Video series HOT WHITE HEIST, produced by Alan Cumming. James has been featured in The New York Times, Vice, Ozy, Forbes, NowThis, Vulture’s Comedians You Should and Will Know in 2021, and was selected as a New Face at the 2021 Just For Laughs Festival.
