kim mayo is a vocalist, composer, artist and poet from many places. After releasing two experimental albums under their own name, they began exploring sound and language under the moniker ‘moonheart’ in 2015. That year, they sketched out the songs that would make up the project’s debut, Blow EP. Produced with their close collaborator Michael Sachs, recorded in their bedroom, and self-released in 2016, Blow was described as “a collection of pop songs that positively shiver with finesse and delicate poise” by Gold Flake Paint and “…deeply evocative and instantly interesting…” by The Line of Best Fit. In 2018 came moonheart’s second release, Feel It Out EP. mayo is the recipient of a full fellowship as the teaching assistant for 2020-2021’s sessions of In Surreal Life, facilitated by Shira Erlichman, & recently completed Catapult’s 12-Month Poetry Generator Workshop with Angel Nafis. There, she was supported in completing her first full-length collection of poems. She is currently living, writing and music-making in Los Angeles, CA.
