NANA DAKIN is a Thai American director of new work, classics and devised performance based in New York City. Her work pursues social equity by examining the way culture is constructed and unsettling dormant biases. Upcoming: SUNWATCHER (Ancram Opera House Play Lab and The Civilians FINDINGS Series) and MAMMELEPHANT (Theater Row). Recent productions include the World Premiere of Anchuli Felicia King’s WHITE PEARL (The Royal Court Theatre), LOVE LETTER TO A SEED (Clubbed Thumb Winterworks), DAMAGE JOY (Bangkok International Performing Arts Meeting) and an all-female and non-binary production of Shakespeare’s RICHARD III (Lenfest Center for the Arts). New work development includes GOLDEN SHIELD by Anchuli Felicia King, a finalist for the 2020 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and HALF THE SKY by composer Tidtaya Sinutoke and bookwriter/lyricist Isabella Dawis for the 2020 Weston-Ghostlight New Musical Award. Nana is a 2020/21 Clubbed Thumb Directing Fellow and in the 2020/21 Civilians R&D Group. She was a 2050 NYTW Directing Fellow in 2018/19. Her play FALSE STARS premiered at the Corkscrew Festival in a “fast-paced, heartfelt and precise” (Stagebuddy) production that was “packed with young talent” (New York Times). SORRY/NOT SORRY, created with director Nana Dakin, is also slated for development as part of the Bushwick Starr Reading Series. Nora’s other projects in development include multimedia works, an opera and an original TV pilot. Previous dramaturgy projects include workshops of an untitled play by Jackie Sibblies Drury (Lark Studio Retreat, Bushwick Starr Reading Series); the development of THE UNIVERSE IS A SMALL HAT by Cesar Alvarez (Joe’s Pub, Prelude 2013); THE IN-BETWEEN by Kareem Fahmy (Noor Theatre’s The Myth Project) and contributing to The Civilians cabaret LET ME ASCERTAIN YOU: HOLY MATRIMONY!
