British Invasion: The UK Stars of "Whose Line is it Anyway?"

After Monty Python, but before Drew Carey, there was a comedy revolution. Stephen Frost revitalized improv and inspired a whole new generation of British comedians. The British cast of “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” has paved the way for comedians such as Sacha Baron Cohen (“Ali G”) and Ricky Gervais (“The Office”). “Whose Line?” received the ultimate validation when it was turned into an American T.V. show by Drew Carey. See British comedy masters Steven Frost, Jim Sweeney, Steve Steen, Andy Smart and Richard Vranch in NYC in this special limited engagement!

Thursdays at Ten: Shushie Bush

Straight from Montreal’s Just for Laughs Festival and Comedy Central’s Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn, the hilarious and irreverent Colette Hawley brings sharply clever parodies, wince-worthy anecdotes, and deconstruction of the acting in some classic hardcore porno movies.

Colette Hawley’s SHUSHIE-BUSH. It’s fun to say. It’s funnier to watch.

365 Days/365 Plays

On November 13, 2002, Pulitzer-prize winner Suzan-Lori Parks got an idea to write a play a day for a year. She began that very day, finishing one year later. The resulting play cycle, called 365 Days/365Plays, is a daily meditation on an artistic life. Some plays are very short, less than a page. Others last forever.

Ars Nova will be producing Week 11 of 365 Days/365 Plays, bringing to life the
seven plays that Suzan Lori-Parks wrote between January 22nd and January 28th.
The performance will feature a cross-section of Ars Nova “regulars” that includes
performers, comedians, writers, directors and musicians. Directed by Shira Milikowsky,
with original music by Daniel Zaitchik.

This event is FREE but reservations are required. Call 212-977-1700 or email rsvp@arsnovanyc.com for tickets.

Ars Nova proudly presents AT LEAST IT’S PINK, a trashy little show about a wide-eyed girl from Manhattan, Kansas, who moves to the other, dirtier Manhattan and gets de-sunflowered in this raunchy new musical.

Written by Bridget Everett, Michael Patrick King and Kenny Mellman

Original Music and Lyrics by Kenny Mellman and Bridget Everett

Directed by Michael Patrick King

Salacious downtown singer/songwriters Bridget Everett and Obie Award winner Kenny Mellman (Kiki and Herb) team up with Emmy Award® winner Michael Patrick King (“Sex and the City”) for an outrageously raunchy evening.

Bridget Everett will be making her theatrical debut at Ars Nova after setting the downtown scene ablaze with her fiercely original music concerts. The New York Blade called Bridget Everett, “Lust soaked, off-putting and adorable.” Michael Musto adds of Everett, “The big girl is a large talent - picture WYNONNA JUDD meets MELISSA ETHERIDGE via the local bar floozy, on a rocket ship out of Twin Peaks.”

KENNY MELLMAN’s work with Justin Bond in Kiki and Herb has earned him an Obie, a Bessie, a GLAAD Media Award, an HX Award and a Helen Hayes Award nomination. Their off-Broadway show, Kiki and Herb, Coup de Theatre, was directed by Scott Elliot at the Cherry Lane Theater, and they recently completed their Broadway debut in Kiki and Herb Alive on Broadway, directed by themselves. Kiki and Herb have performed at Carnegie Hall, Royal Festival Hall London, the Sydney Opera House, the Bonn Bienalle, the Bowery Ballroom and Knitting Factory, among many other venues. They have also opened for Rufus Wainwright, Le Tigre, the Magnetic Fields and the Scissor Sisters. Mellman has also performed with artist John Kelly in Paved Paradise (portraying Georgia O’Keefe) in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Manchester, UK. He has shared the stage or recorded with artists including Bob Mould (Husker Du, Sugar), The Magnetic Fields, The 6ths and the Three Terrors (Stephin Merritt, LD Beghtol and Dudley Klute). He has performed his solo show, Kenny Mellman Is Grace Jones, in New York, Portland and London, and his show with Neal Medlyn, Kenny Mellman Plus Neal Medlyn Equals R Kelly, in New York and Portland, as part of the TBA Festival at the Portland Institute of Contemporary Art. Recently, he has written the music for That Pesky Rat, a children’s musical at the Soho Theatre in London. Kiki and Herb will be touring the United States and the UK in 2007.

MICHAEL PATRICK KING is best known as writer/director/executive producer of the Golden Globe® and Emmy®-winning HBO series “Sex and the City.”. Uncharted: Electric Fiction

If Frankenstein author Mary Shelly joined a 1950s girl group and performed at an 80’s dance party, it might have sounded something like Electric Fiction. Incorporating the musical stylings of bygone eras, their songs are peculiar little fairy tales featuring broken-hearted monsters and pill popping motorcycle mamas that leave you sweaty, dancing and eager for more.

Those with heart, back or neck problems and those under 38 inches tall, rock at your own discretion!

Electric Fiction came together in fall of 2005. Led by the dual vocals of real life high school prom dates, Sandy Cleary and Kevin Townley, the band features guitarist Jimmy Dale, bassist Tobi Parks, and drummer Cara Jeiven. Individually, the members of Electric Fiction have acted in major motion pictures with Uma Thurman, toured the country and performed with indie rock luminaries such as Fugazi, The Gossip, The Tiger Lillies and performance artist Murray Hill.

OLD SPRINGS PIKE blends the cricket chirp of a suburban slow-fade with the subway scream of metropolitan mayhem. Using four part harmony as a diving board, these early twenty-somethings find themselves in stylistic depths ranging from a fair-paced folk to a rarely restrained roots rock. With an energetic, spontaneous live act, OLD SPRINGS PIKE proves that it’s not just a concert, but an event.
