Featuring LISA JACKSON & GIRL FRIDAY
with MIA HAMMOND
ABOUT THE SHOW
Combining a punk rock energy with an arena-rock theatricality you can’t help but raise your lighters to (or smart phones), Lisa Jackson & Girl Friday are returning to Ars Nova to preach the power of rock and roll and the beauty of those who dare to be different, and they want YOU to help them lead the charge. Lisa and the boys are back, and everything is A-OK.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
JEFF GURNER (Bass, Vocals) owns many cool CDs, including Enya’s Watermark, The Spin Doctor’s Pocketfull of Kryptonite, Deep Blue Something’s Home and Sarah McLachan’s Fumbling Towards Ecstasy (he also has this on cassette). For 6 years, he was Bernie Sanders’ speech writer and is a major donor to Greenpeace. He loves playing the bass because “it makes [him] feel like [he’s] playing the bass.”
MIA FAITH HAMMOND is a young NYC-based comic who is trying to make it in the big city! You can see her performing regularly on the New Talent showcases at Caroline’s on Broadway. She recently won the “Make Me Laugh Albany” competition, and was the first teenager to so. She just got back from being a part of the Comedy’s Best Kept Secret tour, where she journeyed the country as a featured comedian for 30 days. She is thrilled to be involved with the Lisa Jackson and Girl Friday experience.
LISA JACKSON (Guitar, Vocals) Rumored to be the secret love child of Lou Reed and Nico, Lisa Jackson was raised in foster care for most of her life after her adopted parents disappeared while on a fishing trip in Croatia. In the early 80s, she served 8 years in San Quentin for allegedly shooting the Reverend Steve Friday in the crotch during a dispute at the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas. Once released from prison, Lisa married Reverend Friday, who taught her how to play guitar and apply rouge. One year later, the Reverend disappeared while on a fishing trip in Croatia. Lisa enjoys NASCAR, trout-fishing and electrolysis.
STEVE LAVNER (Keys, Vocals) is an American television and radio host whose work has been recognized with numerous awards, including two Peabodys and 10 Cable Ace Awards. He began as a local Florida journalist and radio interviewer in the 1950s and 1960s and became prominent as an all-night radio broadcaster starting in 1978. From 1985 to 2010, he hosted the nightly interview television program Larry King Live on CNN. He currently hosts Larry King Now on Hulu during the week, and on Thursdays he hosts Politicking with Larry King, a weekly political talk show which airs in the evening on the same two channels. He has been married 104 times.
FREDDI “BOOM BOOM” SANCHEZ (Drums, Vocals) was born in Guatemala and has made love to over 407 women in his life, and possibly 1.5 men. For 6 years, he served as a foot soldier in Manuel Noriega’s Revolutionary Guard until he was hired as Imelda Marco’s personal shoe-stylist. It was here in sunny Belgium that he was introduced to the world of percussion by infamous Italian shoe-maker, Topo Gigio. It was also at this time that he made love to the first 406 women and the .5 of the men. He would like to dedicate his performance this evening to his 4 children: Imelda, Manny, Topo and Bill Laney Sanchez.
